What an audit certificate proves, and what it doesn't
When the last person signs, Closign seals the PDF and adds a certificate of completion at the end. It is the record you would point to if anyone ever asked who signed, and when.
What's on the certificate
- The document's name and ID, and the SHA-256 fingerprint of the original file.
- Each signer, their email address and how it was confirmed: a one-time code sent to that address.
- When the document was sent, opened and signed by each person, with their IP address.
- The full event log, from sending to completion.
What it shows
It shows that whoever signed could read that email address at the time, that they went through each signing step, and that the document hasn't changed since it was sealed.
Anyone holding the signed PDF can check that last point on our verify page. If a single character in the file has changed, its fingerprint no longer matches.
What it doesn't show
- Who was physically holding the phone or computer. An email code proves control of an inbox, not identity. For stronger proof, Aadhaar eSign is coming to Closign.
- That the agreement itself is valid or fair. That depends on its terms and the law that applies to it.
- That the document could be signed electronically at all. In India, for example, wills, powers of attorney and trusts cannot be.
Keep the signed PDF
The certificate travels with the PDF. Everyone gets a copy by email when signing completes, and you can download it again from the document page. Keep it with your other records.
